Hockey’s Back at XL Center
It was a pleasure to throw away the 2021 year of our calendars. We missed out on so many fun things to do that we didn’t even need a calendar for the most part — we were stuck at home all last winter!
Not so this year, and that’s a good thing when you live at Park Place Towers. One of the great winter entertainment options is Hartford Wolf Pack professional ice hockey games at XL Center in downtown Hartford. From Park Place, you’re just 32 minutes on foot to the XL Center or seven minutes by car. How great is that?
Here’s more about our famous professional hockey team, the Wolf Pack.
Hartford Wolf Pack
If you follow hockey, you may remember that Hartford formerly had an NHL team, the Hartford Whalers. But, as professional teams are apt to do when a better offer comes calling, the Whalers abandoned Hartford after the 1996-97 NHL season, moving south to Raleigh, North Carolina.
That was bad news for NHL fans, but good news for hockey fans in general because as soon as the Whalers left the Binghamton Rangers relocated from Binghamton, New York to Hartford to play in the vacated Hartford Civic Center (now the XL Center). That meant less expensive tickets, better access, and more fun!
After the relocation, Hartford had a “name the team” contest and the winning name was the Wolf Pack, a reference to a submarine class as well as a submarine tactic. With Connecticut being home to both the main builder of submarines (General Dynamics Electric Boat) and the US Navy’s primary submarine base, the Wolf Pack name honored both.
Number one team for the Rangers
The Wolf Pack plays in the American Hockey League, the top farm league for the National Hockey League. The Wolf Pack is the top affiliate for the New York Rangers of the NHL. This means every night you’re seeing players who are just a step from the NHL, but you can see them without having to pay and arm and a leg for tickets.
Tickets
For the 2021/2022 Hartford Wolf Pack season, adult tickets range from $21 to $46. Youth tickets (ages 2-12) are just $12 to $22. The Wolf Pack also has many promotions on game nights. For February these are the two remaining promotions as of this February 15 blog posting. On Saturday, February 19, it’s Pride Night when the Wolf Pack takes on the Providence Bruins. On Saturday, February 26, it’s Hockey ‘N Hops and Hockey ‘N Vine and Popsocket Night. Fans get to sample local beer and wine before the 7:00 p.m. game. Also, the first 1,500 fans will receive a PopSocket, courtesy of Carvel.
February nights can get cold here in Hartford, but that’s the perfect excuse to head over to the XL Center to take in a Wolf Pack game. Such is the beauty of our location in Hartford and Park Place.
