How to Make the Most of Your Covid Thanksgiving
Few people expected to still be dealing social distancing during the holidays, but case numbers are going back up and governments are having to take steps to curtail activities to prevent further spread. This does not mean, however, that you cannot have a fabulous Thanksgiving.
Here are some ideas to make the holiday more fun:
Get Fresh, Local Produce for Your Thanksgiving Meal from the Farmer’s Market
There are a number of farmer’s markets operating in and around the Hartford area. Most of these markets are able to remain open during the pandemic, but you are required to wear a mask. Many of the markets allow you to call ahead and place your order for pickup so that you can avoid crowds. For a full list of the operating farmer’s markets in the area, visit Connecticut’s DOAG.
Participate in the Manchester Road Race
The 84th annual Manchester Road Race will still be happening this year on Thanksgiving, though it will be modified and there will be a virtual option for participants. Unlike past years, where people gathered from all over the world to participate and the crowds rivaled that of the Macy’s Day parade, this year’s event is focused on safety. Learn more.
Smaller Gatherings Mean Adventurous Menus
When you’re not cooking for 40, it’s easier to change up the Thanksgiving meal and try something different. Whether you still choose a traditional turkey dinner and experiment with side dishes or try your hand at brisket, prime rib, or cedar plank salmon, this Thanksgiving can give you a chance to shake things up, discover new traditions, and have a more intimate meal. This might even be the year to leave the cooking to someone else and book a table at one of the local restaurants that will be offering Thanksgiving dinner.
