Exercising in the summer may be fun but remember the heat can get the best of you if you’re not prepared. Follow these tips to stay safe during your outdoor workouts:
Stay Hydrated
Remember to drink water before, during, and after a workout.
Choose the Best Time
If it’s especially hot, exercise in the morning before 10 a.m. or after 3 p.m. to avoid peak sun exposure.
Dress Correctly
Exercise in light-colored, loose clothing. Wear a hat and sunglasses.
Block the Sun
Apply sweat-resistant sunscreen before exercising. Reapply often while outdoors (every 80 minutes) for best results.
Be Aware of Your Body
Don’t overdo it. If you feel tired, take a break and drink water until you feel better. It may take you a couple of weeks to adapt to working out in the heat.
Get a Doctor’s Ok
If you have health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or other chronic conditions, get approval from your doctor before starting any workout regimen.
